TAICO applauds students’ performance, as it celebrates 20th Graduation ceremony

The Guest speaker of the occasion, Dr. Raphael S. Awoseyin, is a seasoned engineer with over 40 years of experience in upstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the Middle East. He congratulated all students of Thomas Adewumi College for gaining admission into the college disclosing that they are among the privileged 1% of Nigeria students. He commended the teachers for their commitment to grooming the students as they are unwittingly shaping the lives of tomorrow’s leaders. He recounted that he had once taught a student mathematics and stirred up his interest to study computer science and the student has eventually become the founder of one of the foremost software companies in Nigeria.

Dr. Raphael admonished the students to make reasonable decisions about their career choices, course of study, the prospects of studying these courses, and the viability of these choices for creating a better future for themselves. He encouraged the parents to support their wards in every positive decision they make. He also urged the students to shun cultism and other bad influences citing that they can be detrimental to their lives.

Following the speech, Prize-giving to outstanding students in various subjects and categories took place. The Proprietor and Proprietress of the college; Engineer (Dr.) Johnson Bamidele Olushola Adewumi and Dr. (Mrs) Gloria Adewumi, also awarded some of the teachers with monetary gifts in appreciation for their dedicated services to the institution.

Some of the notable personalities who graced the occasion include the Oloko of Oko-Irese land, Olomu of Omuaran, and the Area Commander of Police. A special appearance was also a mentor of the founder of the college, the Abowaba of Offa, Chief Yinusa Oyeyemi who is also a former principal of Government Secondary School Ilorin. He was the principal while the founder, Dr. J.B.O was a student at G.S.S Ilorin. His remarkable mentoring and support to all his students were unforgettable which showed how most of his mentees turned out to be successful including the guest speaker.

The Abowaba of Offa While addressing the congregation, advised the parents to be consciously involved in their children’s lives, with emphasis on female children, as the menace in society today is speedily increasing. The Graduation ceremony was concluded with a prayer of thanksgiving to God and best wishes to graduands.
